A Kind of Dedication
Aaron Leininger To be, or not to be, that is the question . . . 1 you were always the first in everything outside the coroner’s office where I witnessed your still hands for the last time that once played guitar and wrote poems like mine do I finished that fifth of vodka I found in your truck straight still trying to be like you or to keep you alive somehow the last tape you listened to —the Pixies still in the deck the book you were reading —Gutierrez where it was marked clues that offered neither comfort or direction on the day you walked through that conduit of water out of our world without explanations offering your life like always with open extended hands 2 carved from the same bone —cut from one flesh held to the limits of eternity and pressed to the shores of our mutual temptation what question will I contemplate, in my own hour? and will I answer with real bravery? or will I fail? like you |
