Woolf and the Water
John J. Siefring Virginia mostly wanted a room of her own a place that would make order of the voices in her head The headaches that pounded through her heart to the core were sometimes relieved just a bit by the sounds of the shore The sensuous trickle of the water soft babble of the stream gentle rhythm of the river peace is what the water gave her So it made great sense to her to wander in the garden collecting beautiful large stones gently placing them in the pockets of her dress And down she strolled to the Ouse in a very long Melton greatcoat wading to the deepest part as the pulse hammered in her skull It was there she found other-speak the right combination of depth and stone wading toward the final calm this is what the water gave her |
